The Story of Fish Creek United
In the Beginning
In 2013, the faith communities of St. Andrew’s United Church and Deer Park United Church came together to worship side by side, celebrating their faith and experiencing God’s presence in meaningful ways. Over the years, they joined each other for countless activities and projects, sharing talents, passions, and gifts not only with each other but also with the wider community. Their journey of collaboration and care laid the foundation for a vibrant, inclusive community that continues to grow and serve. After more than five years of joining together to worship, socialize and participate in each other’s programs, discussions began about how the two communities of faith could work more closely together in the future.
A series of “Moving Forward, Building the Future” workshops engaged members from both congregations, alongside input from an online survey. Building on the feedback, an Amalgamation Steering Committee (ASC) was formed to explore the possibility of joining with an amalgamation. The committee carefully examined the strengths, gifts, programs, and ministries of each community. The ASC recommended that Deer Park United Church and St. Andrew’s United Church merge into a single, unified community of faith.
In a prayerful and intentional vote, the congregations agreed to formally amalgamate, marking the creation of one new community of faith — a congregation ready to move forward together, stronger, and more connected than ever.
Coming Together
Here and Now
In January 2022, Fish Creek United Church officially began. Focused on living out God’s love in tangible ways and guided by our four pillars—Faith Formation, Congregational Life, Outreach, and Operations—we built a congregation rooted in faith, strengthened by community, and committed to compassionate action in the wider world.
Every week, Fish Creek United comes alive with worship, small groups, and fellowship. From Bible studies and youth programs to knitting circles, wellness groups, and choir, there are opportunities for people of all ages and interests to connect, grow, and belong. Through our outreach initiatives, including food security programs and social justice efforts, the congregation extends God’s love beyond the church walls, making a real difference in the lives of neighbours and the broader community. Every service, gathering, and project reflects our commitment to being an inclusive, welcoming, and compassionate community of faith.
